i boarded a plane back to portland on tuesday night, get back to my own bed, get up on wednesday and receive a phone call from my mother telling me that my grandmother had a heart attack and died while driving. i got a ticket back to iowa for thursday. after such a wonderful week of trans iowa victory celebration and then to hear that my grandma was gone has been a big blow. the funeral and visitation were bizarrely comforting as a lot of people that i never see are all together telling stories about ova and her children. tough times. i am here in iowa til wednesday and will be back to playing catch up in the shop.
if i have learned anyhing in the last couple days, it is that you should let everyone around you know how you feel about them because life is short and also that storytelling is the best way to keep someone’s spirit alive.

ira: I am sorry for your loss.
You are correct about the story telling and life being too short for holding back your feelings. Thanks for that reminder.

Ira — you’re in my heart and my prayers. As we say in my tribe, may your grandmother’s memory be for a blessing to you.
Love, B

Many years ago the woman that became my wife said something that shook me to my core. A simple thing really, probably won’t impress anyone but it speaks volumes about the value of relationships and family. She told me, “It’s not real unless you have someone to share it with”. I proposed a short time later.
Sorry for your loss, Ira, but thanks for sharing. And for keeping things real.
