benifits of cyclo-cross!

the lovely brian vernor has donated the showing of his cross film to bikes to rwanda at plan b in portland to help raise some money to help us continue to send bikes to the coffee farmers in rwanda. if you like great coffee and also like cross, you should show up, drink a pint and throw a little cash in the hat for a good cause. this is sort of a pre-cross crusade kick off party.

this thursday at plan B from 5 to 8 pm.

i couldn’t figure out how to upload the flyer but it is all here.

in other news, i am in a frenzy to get ready for the oregon manifest show and trying to cross ride in pier park a couple of times per week to keep on top of some sort of cross fitness. i keep thinking that if i keep signing up to race A’s, i will be faster. so far, it has hurt a lot and it is hard to feel gratified only racing an hour a week. for all the prep and anxiety before the race, it seems short.

i love it and am looking forward to some rain this week before alpenrose. mud and cold are just around the corner and before we know it, january will be dragging it’s soggy days too slow. long miles and rainy centuries in febuary. my friend otis says summer is for racing and winter is for training. amen.

the days are shorter and hours in the shop are easier to feel good about. finished up darrell’s bike, statrted dan’s cross bike, building a new fork and rack for cody in iowa city and trying to carve out some time to build my booth for the show this week. stressfull and exciting at the same time.

the bad news this week is both rachel and i had our wheels stolen from our bikes while we were having a romantic dinner in st. john’s last sunday night. bike thieves are the lowest form of scum on the earth. i am still fuming about it. our bikes were locked up right outside the window to the cafe and we couldn’t believe it when we walked outside. cupcake it now without my old dura ace wheels and rachel’s front wheel was snatched too. this was her first ride since her accident and to be without our daily transportation is completely shitty. i hope the asshole who stole them suffers a face plant on my wheels!

leaving this post on a positive note, joe staples sent me a link to a rad cross specific photo sight called pdxcross. check it out!

    ~waves from Iowa~

There is a special place in hell for bike thieves.

I hope to be back out that way for Cycle Oregon next year, maybe sooner if I’m lucky. We’ll have to have a beer.
