i broke down and bought a new iron and a sweet blue ironing board yesterday so i could set the ink on the ira ryan hats that are all silk screened in my living room. the only thing better than a pretty blue ironing board is putting it on your pretty (and strong) pink and white bike and riding down the street while ringing your bell at all the onlookers on the sidewalk. such a portland moment…….

aside from the cute errands that i seem to be running all the time, i rode in the tour of flanders (portland style) on saturday with about 100 other racers, leg shavers and spandorks. oh my god! so fucking hard. we started out riding up saltzman and then back in on skyline. raining off and on as we turned up brynwood and within 10 meters about 1/3 of the riders were walking. sooooo steep. john leonard muscled over the top in his 39-23!!!!! i trotted next to a couple others up to the top where we all regrouped and continued to the next climb up to pittock mansion. the burn was intense as riders were dropping off the back like paratroopers. i managed to stay with the lead group of 10 riders until 4 miles to go. the que sheets were terrible and the course really wasn’t marked too well but i managed to stay in reach of the the group for a while. most of the climbs i remember from 5 years worth of alleycats and messengering up the hillside. i was always the one eager to drop a tag at 2345 nw upper vista view mountainside heights terrace. i love that shit but doing 10 climbs all at a race pace catches up with you fast. i think the group widdled down to 7 riders (mostly masters and 2’s) by the end.

i am happy to ride on gravel all day and carry a ironing board home from the thrift store.

Ira, I took some photos at the finish of the Ronde van Portland ride. There are a couple of you at the beginning. Thought you might like to see them.

That’s a pretty cool pic. I don’t know that I could get away with that sort of thing here in the ‘nix.

Nice pictures from the Ronde, are you puking Ira, or did you lose a contact lens? Looked like a lovely day for a bike ride!
