i found a interview with sean kelly on cycling news.com the other day that really hit home how the world of bike racing has changed in the last 20 years. the true hard men of europe have been replaced by a corporate take over tactics and scandels. nostalgia puts a petina on the image of cycling heros that turns them into legends. people always remember eddy’s high points but seem to forget that he was caught for doping in the world championships. all the scandel aside, eddy merckx, sean kelly and bernard hinault will all be imortilized as the last of the hard men era.

here is the link to the interview.

Back in the day of loose balls and leather soles…
Makes me yearn for a day on silks.

I met a guy at interbike once whose claim to fame was that he had once taken a poo in Sean Kelly’s toilet. glory through suffering indeed!

i met a guy at interbike once whose claim to fame was that he had never been beaten by eddy merckx.
he later took a poo in my toilet.
don’t talk to ME about suffering!
